Semi-Finals Guidelines and Requirements Semi-Finals: Tuesday April 8th at Olin CollegeTeams will be assigned one time slot- all in the afternoon.First Slot: 2:15-2:55pmSecond Slot: 3:00-3:40pmThird Slot: 3:45-4:25pmOne member from you team please let me know your preference. You are not guaranteed to get your first choice. I will accommodate teams that are traveling the furthest first. (10 teams in each slot) Email: konsager@mit.edu with your preference.Â
- Team members to be present at Semi-Finals
- At least one team member must be present.
- There is no rule requiring more than one team member to be present although it is rare for the team to have only one team member at the event.
- Keep in mind that the competition is a business competition, not an idea competition, so judges will be thinking about the strength of the team and the presenting team members should think carefully about the image the team wishes to project at the Semi-Finals.
Â
- 15 minute max presentation and 25 minutes of Q&A/feedback from judges
- There is no limit on number of slides but too many slides will make the presentation seem rushed (around 10 slides usually work well for a presentation of this length).
- Teams are also welcome to make shorter presentations thereby leaving more time in a team’s overall 40 minute time slot for Q&A and feedback with the judges.
Â
- Number of presenters from each team – no specific limit
- It is unlikely for a short presentation to be effective with more than one or two presenters.
- Additional team members who are not presenting can be on hand in the presentation room to take part in the Q&A/feedback discussion.
- Who can be present in the presentation room at the Semi-Finals?
- The Semi-Finals event is closed to the public.
- With the team’s permission and subject to space limitations your mentors are welcome to attend.
- We may also be contacting teams to get permission for ICE special guests (most likely sponsors) to be present in the room – again only with the team’s permission and subject to space limitations.
- Presentations will be due Monday, April 7th at 12:00pm Noon EST
- Teams please email Kimberly (konsager@mit.edu) your presentation by Noon (EST) on Monday, April 7th. This is a strict deadline.
- Teams may NOT substitute a new or modified presentation after Noon (EST) on Monday, April 7th. So, for example, a team can NOT carry in and present a new or modified presentation on the day of the Semi-Finals.
Â
- No other paperwork needs to be submitted for the Semi-Finals
- Only the presentation will need to be done for the Semi-Finals.
- Teams may NOT submit updated executive summaries or appendices at or prior to the Semi-Finals.
- Only teams selected as Finalists will be required to prepare and submit full business plans.
Â
- Scheduling
- Teams traveling a great distance have expressed the need for flexible scheduling. Please email Kimberly (konsager@mit.edu) with any concerns.  We will do our best to work with every team on this issue.
- First Slot: 2:15-2:55pm
Second Slot: 3:00-3:40pm
Third Slot: 3:45-4:25pm - Your team only has to be at Semi-Finals during your presentation slot
