Find a Team / Teammate (Re-Opening in 2009)

We here at ICE like to think or ourselves as professional team match-makers. We try to assemble an appropriate mix of people, give them lots of opportunities to mix and mingle and let the magic of business attraction do its wonders.

It is a generally accepted truism that one of the key success criteria for business plan entrants is the quality and robustness of the team. A group complete with individuals having demonstrated (and if possible outstanding) competencies in finance, technical / science who can evangelise, sales, marketing, operations and a basic coverage of the legal issues all add up to a much more potent submission.

Thus, be sure to carefully consider the capabilities of your current team-mates (you will need more than good ole Uncle Joe, dear Aunt Sally or the fellow who once helped you with your math to cut it against the razor sharp competitors that we have seen thus far).

If you already have these members are part of your team - Great! You are off to a terrific start. If not - read on and help us help you!

Some questions:
• Do you have business skills (someone with a MBA and / or operational experience?

• Do you have financial skills (can your team put together a decent balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows with five year pro-formas), valuations with a reasonable discount rate and someone on your team who understands these numbers and can justify them?

• Do you have the technical skills (who designed the technology, can they make it work, do they have the academic or innovative chutzpah to make it compelling for others)?

• Do you have the sales and marketing skills (someone to put it in front of customers and ask for the business? Have they done this before?)

If you do – ok, but keep digging... Can you do better?
